The land required for construction of the Kochi Water Metro jetties and other facilities will be handed over by December 31, according to the district administration. By the end of the year, the district administration hopes to have completed the land acquisition for the extension of Kochi Metro rail to Kakkanad. District collector Jaffar Malik said that land acquisition for the construction of Water Metro jetties at Bolgatty, Kakkanad, and Eloor has been completed after convening a meeting to review the status of land acquisition for a variety of projects, including Water Metro. He cited that land acquisition for 11 additional Water Metro jetties will be completed by October 31. By November 15, a preliminary notification for land acquisition for the remaining seven Water Metro stations will be issued, and the entire acquisition process will be completed by December 31. The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) plans to open the first phase of the Water Metro in December. The first phase, according to KMRL managing director Loknath Behera, will start with at least four boats. Jetties are being built at High Court Junction, Bolgatty, Cheranalloor, and Eloor. Malik added that survey work for the Metro extension to Kakkanad, as well as the stretch between Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JLN) station and Kakkanad, has been completed.
