Piyush Goyal Backs Skill Centre, Reviews Dighi Port Plan

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, visited the Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) Shendra coinciding with Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti. Developed under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), AURIC Shendra stands as a major hub for industrial growth in Maharashtra. During his visit, the Minister toured operational units, including Coatall Films Pvt Ltd, Inox Air Products, and Umasons Auto Compo Pvt., lauding their contributions towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat.

AURIC’s Role in India’s Industrial Future Highlighting AURIC’s global competitiveness, Goyal noted that the Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area is India’s premier greenfield smart city, equipped with world-class plug-and-play infrastructure and futuristic urban planning. He reiterated that 20 such Industrial Smart Cities are being developed under NICDP, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering an advanced industrial ecosystem that attracts global investors.

Recognizing the need for skilled professionals, Goyal endorsed the establishment of a Skill & Job Centre in collaboration with industry stakeholders. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been urged to spearhead this initiative, which will be housed within a 20,000 sq. ft. space at AURIC Hall.

Maharashtra’s proactive industrial policies also received appreciation from the Minister, who emphasized that the state’s strategic location, skilled workforce, and strong industrial base make it a prime destination for investors.

Dighi Port Industrial Area: A Key Growth Driver On February 20, 2025, Goyal conducted an aerial survey of the upcoming Dighi Port Industrial Area (DPIA) in Raigad district, which was approved by the Government of India in August 2024. Officials briefed him on the advanced trunk infrastructure, master planning, and sectoral opportunities within DPIA, emphasizing its strategic location along the Mumbai-Goa Highway and its proximity to Dighi Port.

The Minister directed authorities to ensure best-in-class infrastructure at DPIA to set a benchmark for other industrial zones.

Stakeholder Engagement & Industrial Vision The visit saw participation from over 100 stakeholders, including representatives from CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, CMIA, MASSIA, MAGIC, and major industrial clusters. Their collaboration is expected to drive Maharashtra’s transformation into a premier global business destination.

Officials from National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL) were also present, receiving directives to enhance Ease of Doing Business.

Reaffirming the government’s vision, Goyal stated, “The Modi government remains steadfast in fostering an industrial ecosystem that promotes innovation, sustainable growth, and global competitiveness. Industry stakeholders are pivotal in realizing India’s ambitious goal of a Developed Nation @ 2047.�

AURIC & DPIA: The Next Big Industrial Hubs AURIC Shendra-Bidkin is being developed in two phases over 10,000 acres, with 60% designated for industries and 40% for commercial, residential, and institutional purposes. The smart city features high-speed internet, advanced surveillance systems, SCADA-controlled utilities, and an e-Land Management system for transparent land allotment. Notably, 42% of its water demand is met through treated wastewater, ensuring sustainability.

Meanwhile, Dighi Port Industrial Area (DPIA) spans 6,056 acres across Raigad district, strategically positioned near Mumbai and Pune. With seamless connectivity via NH66, NH753F, and Major State Highway 05, DPIA is designed to cater to sectors like Engineering, Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Textiles, and Food & Beverages.

With these developments, Maharashtra continues to solidify its position as a top investment destination, driving industrial growth and economic expansion.
