In a major step toward strengthening India's indigenous shipbuilding ecosystem, Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE). The MoU, formalized on April 7, 2025, at GRSE Bhavan, is aimed at jointly advancing commercial shipbuilding and offshore infrastructure for both domestic and global markets. The collaboration will allow SDHI and GRSE to combine their strengths in design, infrastructure, and project execution to create a scalable and cost-effective model for commercial vessel construction. The agreement aligns with the Government of India鈥檚 Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, focusing on self-reliance in strategic industrial sectors. 鈥淭his partnership paves the way for co-development of standard vessel platforms, coordinated project management, and sharing of shipbuilding infrastructure to reduce costs and turnaround times,鈥� said an official spokesperson from SDHI. The MoU also envisions development of a strong vendor base and supply chain ecosystem through shared sourcing and procurement strategies. An emphasis will be placed on skilling manpower, with the aim of supporting long-term growth in India鈥檚 maritime sector. Additionally, the collaboration spans vessel trials, ship repairs, and infrastructure upgrades鈥攍aying the foundation for a sustainable and future-ready industrial model that drives economic growth and employment generation. Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited鈥攆ormerly Reliance Naval and Engineering Ltd鈥攊s India鈥檚 largest private shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company.
