First solar-powered smart bus station opens in Varanasi

Inaugurating the first smart bus station powered by solar energy with a variety of amenities, UP Urban Development Minister AK Sharma stated that the smart bus station, built in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, will not only improve Varanasi City's transportation infrastructure but will also offer a variety of smart services to people using buses on this route.

After the formal inauguration of the smart bus station at Sampurnanand Sports Stadium's main gate in the Sigra area, Sharma told the gathering that the PM had suggested the concept and that chief minister Yogi Adityanath had promised to implement it and build the bus station as part of the smart city project. It was built as part of Hindustan Unilever Limited's (HUL) corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme in accordance with the municipal corporation's Varanasi Smart City initiative.

A team of professionals and the urban development department worked on the project for the last four months, he said, adding that the smart bus station is powered by solar energy. The bus station buildings, as well as the flooring tiles, were made from recyclable materials, according to Sharma.

He also mentioned that the smart bus station's shelter includes mobile charging stations for commuters, LED lighting, and CCTV surveillance. According to Sharma, the bus shelter will also be used to display important public services as well as awareness messages on critical issues such as hygiene and sanitation. This project is associated with the Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat initiatives to make cities cleaner and greener.

Sharma praised CM Yogi, saying that the CM is committed to making services available to the people of the state while also working to improve the quality of life and ease of living. Sharma also thanked HUL, Varanasi Municipal Corporation, and the district administration for their efforts, and stated that more projects to improve civic services and facilities in the city will be undertaken by the VMC soon.
