Hyderabad smart city has recorded heavy water logging recently as a brief spell of intense rainfall turned streets into lakes. This season, Telangana and Hyderabad have been hit by long spells of rain, and the misery is expected to last until October 14. When the city was hit by a heavy downpour on Saturday, there was heavy water logging in front of the Hyderabad Public School within minutes, and crossing the stretch from HPS to Banjara Hills took more than two hours. This made life particularly difficult for two-wheelers. Following heavy water-logging, traffic was halted in various parts of the city, including Chikkadpally, Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Panjagutta, Bowenpally, Vanasthalipuram, L B Nagar, and Malkajgiri. In the low-lying areas, water flooded several homes, hotels, and shops. The GHMC directed the Zonal Commissioners to be on the ground and monitor the situation in their respective zones, as well as alerting the monsoon action teams and the Disaster Response Force (DRF) to clear water stagnation, remove fallen tree branches, and relocate people in low-lying areas to shelter homes in the event of an emergency. The GHMC, in collaboration with the Police Department, had to fight traffic and water stagnation in various parts of the city. On Friday, about 150 families from Lambadi thanda in the Hayathnagar division of the civic body were relocated to shelter homes and given basic necessities. The highest rainfall recorded was 95.5 mm in Secunderabad, 86.6 mm in Begumpet, 71.8 mm in Balanagar and Kukatpally, 58.5 mm in Alwal, 46.3 mm in LB Nagar, 35.9 mm in Malkajgiri, 29.8 mm in Khairatabad, 23.5 mm in Santosh Nagar, and 14.5 mm in Nampally, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society.
