Indore Municipality to help cities with Swachhata model

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore has collaborated with the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) to develop a module on solid waste management strategy to help replicate the city’s model of cleanliness in other Indian cities besides contributing ideas for smart city development.

The collaboration aimed at strengthening the working of IMC and recreating the model of India’s cleanest city across different cities. It will cover multiple domains from solid waste management to information technology modernisation at the corporation.

“We would work on extending the reach of Indore’s cleanliness model beyond the corporation’s limit because the waste management system has to be integrated, said IIM-I Director Professor Himanshu Rai.

IIM-I has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IMC for three years that will include sharing of expertise and ideas in the areas of local governance, joint research activities, capacity building programs for IMC, organising joint workshops and reviewing IT modernisation.

“The objective of the tie up is to get expertise from the management institute besides the collaboration will help us in tying up with corporate, which in turn make our solid waste model sustainable. The collaboration will also help us in attracting CSR funding, said IMC’s additional commissioner Sandeep Soni.

IIM-I, the second B-school in India to be crowned with triple international accreditations, will also provide assistance in financial management, budgeting and resource allocation.

Apart from the cleanliness model, financial management is one of the key areas where IIM will extend its expertise to the corporation in budgeting and proper resource allocation.
