Payments to be made for land acquisition for the smart city project

Belagavi Smart City completed the road next to Chatrapati Shivaji Udyan last year. According to the court order, official land acquisition proceedings have begun, and the City Corporation is obligated to pay the petitioners' land charges.

In another incident on RPD college road, the road was widened in 2010, and the court has now ordered the City Corporation to pay the land acquisition charges, for which it has deposited around Rs. 4.7 million in the court following a contempt petition.

The Deputy Commissioner has begun the process of acquiring land, and the proposal has been submitted to the government for approval.

The petitioner near Shivaji Garden will face the same fate. The road was built, but no compensation was paid, and the land was not acquired in accordance with the law.

In fact, land acquisition must occur before road construction can begin. Nonetheless, in both of these cases, the Smart City and City Corporation ignored the petitioners' rights, and the court has now ordered them to follow the law and pay the land acquisition charges owed to them.

According to the Sakal, a petitioner has filed a case for Rs. 230 million in damages, and it appears that the City Corporation will have to pay the same.

The city corporation must first purchase land before transferring it to the Belagavi Smart city Ltd, an SPV. But it appears from the court's orders that the law was not upheld in any of the cases.
