The Commissioner of Raipur Municipal Corporation and Managing Director of Raipur Smart City Limited, Abinash Mishra, has reportedly expressed strong dissatisfaction over the slow pace of construction on three crucial Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under Raipur Smart City Limited. The projects in question involve a 3 MLD STP at Maharajbandh Pond and two 1 MLD STPs at Naraiyya Pond and Kho-Kho Pond.
The ponds are vital for thousands of nearby residents who rely on them for daily activities such as bathing, washing clothes, and other domestic needs. However, drainage water has caused contamination in these ponds, leading to unhygienic conditions, with some residents even consuming the polluted water. In light of this, the Commissioner has instructed the agency responsible to accelerate the completion of the STPs.
Mishra stated that the agency had been directed to finalise the projects by the end of October, with trials planned for November, and full operation expected by December. During a review meeting, he reprimanded the contracted agency, M/s Samriddhi Water Works, for the delays and demanded faster progress, warning them of strict action in line with the regulations if the work is not completed on time.
In addition, the Commissioner instructed all relevant officials and contractors to maintain continuous oversight of other key development projects in the city, such as the 24x7 water supply project, Shastri Market, and Mutton Market, emphasising the need to meet deadlines while ensuring quality and public convenience. The review meeting, held today, was attended by prominent officials including Smart City COO Ujjwal Porwal, General Manager Technical Pankaj Kumar Panchayati, Additional General Manager Technical Imran Khan, among others.
