Smart City Mission: Aurangabad civic body to invest Rs 1,000 cr

The centre has approved development works under the Smart City Mission, valuing Rs 1,000 cr. The government will put in 50% share in terms of funding while the State Government and the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will have to invest 25% share each.

The cash-strapped AMC has to put in Rs 250 cr accordingly, but due to poor financial condition, it has decided to invest a share of Rs 100 cr by March 2022, confirmed the municipal commissioner A K Pandey.

The Smart City Mission was launched in the city in the year 2015. The Union Government and the State Government released an aid of Rs 430 cr under the mission. The government informed that it would further release an aid of Rs 320 cr only if the AMC puts its share in the project.

The AMC has made a provision of Rs 50 cr earlier as its share in Smart City Mission in its annual budget. The accounts section was planning the expenditure wisely for the past many months. The AMC will be releasing Rs 70 cr to Smart City in July accordingly, and the remaining Rs 30 cr will be given by March 2022.
