Surat Leads Warehousing Growth as Reliance, Whirlpool and More Expand

Surat recorded the highest year-on-year growth in warehousing transactions in India, driven by key deals involving Reliance Retail, Whirlpool, Waaree Energies, Goldi Solar, and Kohler India. According to Knight Frank India's latest report, Surat added 1.6 million square feet of warehousing space in 2024, marking a 98% increase from the previous year. 

Collectively, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Vapi registered 8.26 million square feet in transactions during 2024, reflecting a 27% year-on-year growth from 6.52 million square feet in 2023. In comparison, Mumbai recorded 10.3 million square feet (17% growth), NCR remained stagnant at 9.2 million square feet, Pune saw a marginal 1% rise to 8.6 million square feet, while Bangalore (6.6 million sq ft), Kolkata (6.5 million sq ft), and Chennai (5.8 million sq ft) grew at 27%, 28%, and 29%, respectively. 

Ahmedabad remained Gujarat’s top warehousing hub with 5.8 million square feet in transactions, reflecting a 25% year-on-year increase. Major firms, including Coca-Cola, Nestle India, Voltas Ltd, and Toyota Tsusho India Pvt Ltd, secured warehousing spaces in Ahmedabad. The manufacturing sector, excluding FMCG and FMCD, accounted for 49% of Ahmedabad’s transactions and 72% of Surat’s. 

In Surat, most warehousing transactions took place in the Kosamba-Palsana cluster, located near the National Highway, while Ahmedabad’s warehousing activity was spread across Changodar-Bagodra, Sanand-Viramgam, Aslali-Kheda, and Vithalapur-Becharaji clusters.
