MMOPL to commission water treatment plant

Mumbai Metro One (MMOPL), which is implementing the 12 km metro rail project between Versova and Ghatkopar via Andheri , would commission a waste water treatment plant.

The proposed plant will have a capacity to recycle 5 lakh litre of water daily at Versova. The company would use the plant to recycle 4 lakh litre of water used to wash rakes.

On a daily basis, MMOPL's Versova Car Shed would require 3 lakh litre of water for domestic usage and another 0.5 lac litre for industrial as well as few additional requirements for other plants and equipments.

At the Metro's Versova car shed, state-of-the-art waste water treatment plant has been built. The waste water treatment plant is expected to be started by May.

According to a spokesperson of MMOPL, the comprehensive waste water treatment plant will ensure that water used in operating the Metro gets treated and pumped back into the system thereby achieving zero-waste discharge. MMOPL has roped in Ahluwalia Contractors India for the job.

Mumbai Metro One has undertaken this unique initiative in light of the increased demand for water. The project will not only aim at creating awareness about responsible water use, treatment, and disposal, but also encourage water conservation at a time when the country and Maharashtra is battling large-scale water shortage.
