The Tiruchi Corporation is set to begin work on its ambitious 24/7 drinking water supply project, aimed at ensuring uninterrupted water supply to all parts of the city. This project is estimated to cost ?1,544 crore and is expected to bring significant improvements to the water distribution system. The initiative, under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 scheme, will focus on upgrading the existing infrastructure, laying new pipelines, and enhancing the water supply network in the city.
The project aims to cover the entire city and provide residents with access to potable water around the clock. The current water distribution system in Tiruchi is outdated and unable to meet the growing demands of the city鈥檚 population, resulting in irregular water supply in several areas. With this new initiative, the city hopes to eliminate such issues by improving water pressure, reducing wastage, and ensuring equitable distribution across neighborhoods.
As part of the project, Tiruchi Corporation will replace old pipelines, install new overhead tanks, and introduce metered connections to monitor water usage. This will help in reducing water loss due to leakages and ensure better water management. The project also includes the construction of additional pumping stations to strengthen the water supply network.
Residents of Tiruchi have long been advocating for a reliable water supply system, and this project is seen as a significant step towards addressing their concerns. However, while the corporation is optimistic about the benefits, there are also concerns about the potential disruption to daily life during the construction phase, which may cause road closures and other inconveniences.
Once completed, the 24/7 water supply project is expected to greatly improve the quality of life for the citizens of Tiruchi by ensuring a consistent and reliable water supply, especially during the summer months when water shortages are common.
