The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), through the Directorate General of Training (DGT), has partnered with Shell India to launch a green energy and electric vehicles (EV) training initiative aimed at equipping youth with future-ready skills.
The Green Skills and EV training programme seeks to prepare students and faculty for emerging opportunities in the e-mobility and green energy domains, supporting India's broader net-zero goals. The training will be implemented across selected National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
The curriculum, developed in collaboration with Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT, includes modules on EV systems, diagnostics, battery technology, digital tools, and safety procedures.
The programme will roll out in phases. The first phase will include:
A 240-hour advanced EV technician course at four NSTIs
A 90-hour job-oriented EV skills course at 12 Shell-supported ITIs
A 50-hour foundational green skills module at ITIs without physical labs
In addition to student training, more than 250 instructors will undergo Training of Trainers (ToT). Certification will be co-branded by Shell and DGT, and placement support will be offered to improve industry integration.
The initiative also includes the creation of dedicated EV skill labs within select training centres, providing practical, hands-on learning aligned with industry needs.
The collaboration aims to build a workforce that is both job-ready and climate-conscious, contributing to India鈥檚 growing role in the global green economy.
