Cemex to buy Murli Cement for $550 mn

Cemex SAB de CV, the world’s third-largest cement maker, is close to buying the Nagpur-based Murli Industries� cement business for about $550 mn. Murli Industries, has a 3 mn tonne plant at Chandrapur in Maharashtra and, plans to build two more in Rajasthan and Karnataka. The plannednew units, with capacities of 3 mn tonne each, would be built in tandem with 50 MW captive power plants.

This will be the first major deal in India’s cement sector after 2005 when Swiss major Holcim took control of two of India’s largest cement companies, ACC and Ambuja Cement India.
