Star Cement has announced plans to rebuild the Daflang and Mahimiri watch towers in Kaziranga National Park, Assam, as a tribute to the spirit of Rongali Bihu. The initiative, undertaken in partnership with park authorities, aims to strengthen wildlife conservation and enrich the visitor experience during the state’s most celebrated festival.
Located within the park’s 430-square-kilometre landscape of forests, grasslands, and wetlands, the two towers will aid in wildlife monitoring, anti-poaching surveillance, and eco-tourism promotion. Species such as the royal Bengal tiger, Asiatic elephant, and over 2,600 one-horned rhinoceroses are key conservation priorities in the area.
Constructed using eco-friendly materials and equipped with modern surveillance tools, the watch towers will also serve as elevated observation points for tourists to view Kaziranga’s diverse flora and fauna.
Pradeep Purohit, COO of Star Cement, said the project embodies the renewal spirit of Rongali Bihu, reaffirming the company’s commitment to Assam’s development.
Kaziranga Field Director Sonali Ghosh described the initiative as a transformative step for park operations and a meaningful gift to both nature and community.
