Coal production hikes to 34 mt till the first half of May

Due to increased power demand, coal production increased to 34 million tonnes (mt) in the first half of May.
The total coal production increased to 33.94 mt, with a growth of 36.23%, compared to 24.91 mt production, during the same period last year.
The total dispatch of coal has been at 37.18 mt, with a 15.87% growth, compared to the same period of last year.
The total coal dispatch, including non-Coal India Limited (CIL) coal-producing units, stood at 71.77 mt for April, registering a 9.39% year-on-year (YoY) growth.
The Ministry of Coal said that it is continuing all efforts to enhance coal production and dispatch to meet the increasing power demand in India.
The government said CIL had played a crucial role in augmenting production and recorded its highest monthly coal production of 53.47 mt in April, with 27.64% year-on-year growth.
During the first half of May, CIL's production had been at 26.35 mt, registering a growth of 34.44%, compared to 19.60 mt during the same period last year.
The total coal dispatches from CIL hiked to 57.50 mt in April from 54.23 mt in April 2021, registering a 6.03% growth.
As per the estimates, overall dispatches, including non-CIL production, stood at 61.69 mt, compared to 52.32 mt in April 2021, with a 17.91% growth.
