BCCL's Madhuband washery with 5.0 MTPA Capacity commences operation

Bharat Coking Coal (BCCL), operating under the Ministry of Coal, has officially commenced commercial operations at its Madhuband washery with a capacity of 5.0 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA). The commencement took place on November 29, 2023, under the supervision of Samiran Dutta, CMD, BCCL.

Inaugurated in March 2022 by Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, the Madhuband washery has undergone rigorous load tests, trial runs, and performance guarantee tests (PGT) to ensure its operational efficiency and readiness.

Representing a significant stride towards realising the vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat, this state-of-the-art washery is equipped with advanced technology, establishing it as one of India's largest Coking Coal Washeries. Its primary objective is to strengthen the supply of washed coking coal to the Indian steel sector, aiming to reduce the dependence on imported coking coal and mitigate the consequent foreign exchange outflow.

The initiation of commercial production at the Madhuband Washery signifies a strategic move by BCCL to support import substitution of coking coal in India. This initiative holds particular significance amidst the rising prices of imported coking coal, which pose challenges to the domestic steel industry. The washery is poised to consistently deliver high-quality washed coking coal to the steel sector, facilitating the efficient utilisation of India's coking coal reserves.
