The authorities of Noida and Greater Noida have decided to build a massive waste-to-energy plant on 30 acres of land in Astoli to treat the waste of the twin cities. The two governments have already signed agreements with each other and with the agencies that will set up the plant in the near future. We have completed all formalities and enlisted the help of NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) and another private agency, which will begin work at the site shortly and be operational in 18 months. The land will be handed over to the two authorities in accordance with the agreement. These two agencies are responsible for establishing, maintaining, and operating the plant, said Avinash Tripathi, a Noida authority officer on special duty. The NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited will receive 20 acres of land on which to build a plant capable of recycling 1,110 metric tonnes per day. According to officials, it will recycle wet and dry waste and produce green charcoal. This facility will recycle 600 metric tonnes of waste from Noida and 500 metric tonnes of waste from Greater Noida on a daily basis. Another company, Indo Environ Integrated Solutions Limited, will build a facility on 10 acres of land. It will produce compressed gas for market sale. This plant will be able to recycle 300 metric tonnes of waste per day. It will handle 200 metric tonnes of waste from Noida and 100 tonnes of waste from Greater Noida, Tripathi added. The two governments will not share any profits from the operation of these two plants. However, the two agencies will be unable to mortgage the land that has been leased to them for this purpose. The agencies will profit from the sale of the recycled component and its byproducts. According to officials, the government will not provide financial assistance and will not share profits. Currently, Noida generates 600 metric tonnes of waste per day, while Greater Noida generates 250 tonnes. We are building these two facilities with the future needs of 2031 in mind.
