Bihar to get 559 MW electricity as NPGC installs final unit

Bihar will get 559 MW of additional electricity as Nabinagar Power Generating Company (NPGC) installed the third and final unit with a capacity of 660 MW at Nabinagar, Aurangabad district on Sunday.

Nabinagar Power Generating Company (NPGC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC). The project to take power share of Bihar from the NTPC power plants from the present allocation of 5,362 MW to 5,921 MW.

On Sunday, the NPGC unit completed the full-load trial run of 72 hours in the wee hours. Therefore, the unit is now ready for commercial power generation and will add electricity of around 660 MW to the beneficiary states including Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, Bihar, and Jharkhand. With this project, the NPGC’s total generation capacity will be increased from the current 1320 MW to 1980 MW with a total expenditure of Rs 19,412 crore.

Bihar shall get a share of 84.8% or 559 MW of electricity which will be generated from the power plant. The remaining share will be allocated to Jharkhand, Sikkim, and Uttar Pradesh from this plant.

NTPC spokesperson, Vishwanath Chandan said that the project is the third and final environment-friendly supercritical unit based on the technology of 660 MW of the NPGC which entered the commissioning activities after a trial operation that went successful today. Currently, 660 MW units 1 and 2 have attained the commercial operation status on September 6, 2019, and July 23, 2021. Bihar receives electricity of 1,122 MW from the two units.
