Bihar to get its first floating solar power plant in Darbhanga

Bihar comes with an innovative solution to the problem of space required for generating green power. The state is likely to get a floating solar power generation unit of 2 MW capacity in Darbhanga in a month. The project further aims to promote pisciculture.

The unit has been commissioned to a private firm named Avaada Energy and will be set up over a six-acre pond. It is located 200 km from Patna.

After the inspection of the facility, the officials have said that Avaada Energy is ready to commission the plant and they expect it will soon be operational.

Avaada to transmit power from the site to the government agency, Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA). BREDA works for the expansion of clean renewable energy.

A power purchase agreement had been signed between Avaada and BREDA for 25 years. The power received by BREDA from the plant will then be supplied to local consumers via North Bihar Power Distribution.

There are a total of 4,004 solar modules in the solar plant. Every module has been installed in the pond and has a capacity to generate 505 MW peak electricity. They will generate green and clean energy of approximately 2 MW.

When it is commissioned, the solar plant will ensure power supply to 10,000 people in the state.

The solar plant will generate 2.7 million units every year and help in the reduction of carbon dioxide of 64,125 tonne in the lifespan of 25 years.
