The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras partnered with the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Chennai Chapter, and International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Chennai, to organise the National Conference on Energy Technologies (NCET-2022) on April 29 and 30, 2022.
The conference brought jointly leading academic scientists, scholars, researchers, and industry experts to exchange experiences and research results on all elements of energy storage systems and technologies including batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, and solar and wind energy.
Dr Anil Kakodkar, Former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission of India, spoke about the way ahead for the energy transition of India from fossil fuels to net-zero.
He highlighted the role of hydrogen energy and the demand for the direct splitting of water into hydrogen via grid-independent systems. He also highlighted the requirement for 鈥榤ade in India鈥 solutions to overcome the net-zero target.
Addressing the conference, Professor V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, stressed the need for Grid Security and Data Protection. He highlighted the demand for energy auditing to save power.
He said that the interesting solutions provided by the start-ups and their demand in realising the net-zero Atmanirbhar Bharath.
IIT Madras Incubation Cell (IITMIC) and IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP), President, Professor Ashok Jhunjunwala presented his analysis on 鈥楬ow Soon can India get to Net-Zero.鈥
He said that the developed countries contribute most to global warming, while India was ranked 103rd in Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG). The demand for strategies in green technologies with commercial viability supported by exclusive policy intervention was strongly proposed in his discussion.
The main topic of discussion was energy Storage Technologies for EVs, stationary applications, and strategic sector, Hydrogen and Fuel Cell technologies, Material selection and design for Energy Storage and Conversion, Process technologies for Recycling and Waste management, and many more.
The conference also covered topics like Energy Demand Analysis in Smart Grids and other sectors, Data Analytics for Renewable Energy Integration, and Artificial Intelligence Applications for Energy storage devices.
Around 14 eminent scientists, academics, and industry experts gave lectures during the conference covering the scope of energy technologies by researchers. The four best oral presenters in the conference were awarded certificates and prizes.
