Increased demand for EV charging stations from real estate, RWAs

Charging station firms are witnessing an increased demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations from real estate developers and residents' welfare associations (RWAs).

Many companies that are in partnership with builders for the EV projects are still in the planning stage, while the demand is also increasing from housing societies and old colonies as they are willing to invest in EV charging stations.

The founder of ElectriVa, Sumit Dhanuka, told the media that the demand for EV has increased due to the government's push, but now people are also wanting to switch to eco-friendly modes of transportation, which is visible from the increased demand from housing societies and RWAs.

The company has acquired a contract from the government of Delhi to set up EV charging infrastructure at major locations.

Kazam is creating EV friendly infrastructure by installing EV charging stations in apartments and residential apartments in partnership with the government, plans to install 10,000 EV charging stations.

Co-founder of Kazam, Akshay Shekhar, said that the company has already tied up with partnerships in Bengaluru, Gurgaon and Pune and the residents are also willing to convert 10% of their parking space into an EV charging station. The company has invested about Rs 5 crore in the expansion project.

Another real estate developer, Kalpataru, is offering EV charging parking at its upcoming infrastructure project.

Managing Director of Kalpataru, Parag Munot, said that electric mobility is the future of transport and the company wants to achieve the target of net-zero carbon emissions. With the EV demand expected to increase in future, it is necessary to build EV friendly ecosystems in residential and commercial spaces.

The government of India is also encouraging automobile manufacturers to increase the production of EVs to reduce India's dependence on crude oil imports and cut down vehicular pollution.

Co-founder of EVRA Energy Limited, Chandresh Sethia, said that EV demand is increasing in many cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), Bangalore and Hyderabad.
