R.K Singh asks states & UTs to form energy transition steering groups

R.K. Singh, the Union Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy, has asked states and Union Territories (UTs) to form energy transition steering groups.

He suggested that they collaborate to increase the use of renewable energy in the power-producing mix. They should also enhance the usage of biomass and green hydrogen while promoting energy efficiency.

The minister encouraged governments to phase out diesel use in agriculture by 2024 by restricting financial help available under the PM-KUSUM program's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme for adopting solar energy for agricultural feeders.

ReNew Power has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra for a Rs 500 billion investment.

Over the following eight years, the corporation expects to invest the capital in developing an additional 10 to 12 GW of renewable energy projects in the state, including solar-wind hybrid and green hydrogen projects. 30,000 green employment are likely to be created in the state as a result of the investment.

The National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) and Tata Elxsi have signed a memorandum of intent to collaborate on e-mobility and related technologies.

To promote research in transportation electrification and accompanying embedded software, a centre of excellence in electric mobility would be built. The centre also inked its first project on electric car motor design with C-Electric, a start-up.

ADNOC, a UAE-based energy business, announced the purchase of a 25% share in bp's blue hydrogen project, H2 Teesside, during the design stage. Masdar, an Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy firm, has agreed to buy a share in British Petroleum's proposed green hydrogen project, HyGreen Teesside.

The project will now be advanced by ADNOC's first investment in the UK, firstly to the next design level, the pre-FEED stage. By 2030, H2Teesside expects to have built two 500 MW hydrogen production units, kicking off the UK's hydrogen economy.

The project is scheduled to begin operations in 2027. The HyGreen Teesside project is likely to produce 60 megawatts of hydrogen when it begins operations in 2025, with the capacity expanding to 500 megawatts by 2030.

Together, these two projects might meet 15% of the UK government's recently increased 10 GW hydrogen output target for 2030.
