DVC adds 1,500 MW thermal power capacity

Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is adding about 1,500 MW thermal power capacity over and above the existing coal fired generation capacity of 3,070 MW.

One unit of 500 MW each at the greenfield power plants at West Bengal and Jharkhand are expected to be operational by March 2011. The plants are scheduled to be fully operational by end 2012. Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) is the project contractor for both the plants. The second 500 MW unit at the second phase of the Mejia TPS in West Bengal is expected to be fully operational by February 2011.
