Tata Power to add 8,500 MW

Tata Power is planning to commence operations of the first unit at its mega power project in Mundra by September 2011. With this, 1,600 MW of power generation will begin, and the target of 8,500 MW by 2013 will be that much closer to fruition.

The company already has a capacity of 3,127 MW and will add the balance 5,300 MW in the next two years. It will commission its 1,050 MW Maithon project in June this year; the entire project will be on stream by the year-end.
