BMC plans beautification of footpaths at 33 locations in Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to beautify a 90 km stretch of footpaths in Mumbai, including central parts of the city.
The paver blocks will be removed as part of this plan to make way for the cement concrete surface of the pavements.
Footpaths have been identified at 33 locations in Mumbai, including Dadar, Churchgate, Marines Lines, Colaba, Kemps Corner, and Walkeshwar and central Mumbai.
Most of these footpaths, according to civic officials, have paver block surfaces, for which the civic body has been chastised because the blocks would come off due to poor workmanship and the surface would remain uneven. The surface would be made of cement under the new plan.
The BMC will put up road signs and pedestrian-friendly signs, as well as take other steps to make it easier for disabled people to get around. It also included the maintenance of manholes and stormwater drains, as well as the surfacing of a few roads and footpaths.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be around 50 crore.
The project to beautify the city's footpaths will be carried out in five locations, following the improved footpaths around the Fort area in south Mumbai. The BMC issued a request for bids on Thursday, and the deadline for contractors to submit bids is October 28.
The BMC had previously approved a Rs 69 crore proposal to beautify footpaths along Lady Jehangir Marg from St Joseph Circle near Wadala station to Ruia College; Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati Marg from Diamond Garden to Chembur railway station; Sant Gyaneshwar Mandir Road and RKP Road in Bandra (East); and MG Road in Goregaon, among others.
