Ceres inks contract with Shell for green hydrogen production in India

UK-based clean technology company Ceres has entered into a contract with Shell for the development of green hydrogen technology, building upon the existing collaboration between the two entities.

The contract entails the design of a solid-oxide electrolyser module intended for large-scale industrial applications such as synthetic fuels, ammonia, and green steel production.

According to the official press release, the focus of this contract is to develop a pressurized module design scalable to hundreds of megawatts, integrated with industrial plants to produce sustainable future fuels.

Ceres has been collaborating with Shell since 2022, resulting in the deployment of a one-megawatt solid-oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) system at Shell's research and development facility in Bangalore, India.

Phil Caldwell, Chief Executive of Ceres, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration with Shell in positioning Ceres' SOEC technology to meet the evolving needs of partners in the green hydrogen and synthetic fuels markets.

The program aims to leverage insights and data gathered from the existing one-megawatt demonstration project to develop a commercially competitive and scalable solution.

Notably, the project will explore pressurized systems to enhance efficiency, performance, and integration with other processes, targeting module-level efficiency aligned with EU SOE 2030 technology targets.
