Haryana Accelerates Rooftop Solar Adoption

Haryana has achieved significant progress in solar energy adoption, installing 9,609 rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 45.90 MW under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the state government announced during a review meeting led by Chief Secretary Vivek.

Subsidies and Solar Expansion The state has disbursed Rs 525.4 million in subsidies to encourage solar installations. Additionally, the Public Works Department (PWD) is creating a centralized portal to manage data for government properties, facilitating the installation of solar power plants on government buildings. Site surveys for 3,011 buildings have identified a potential solar capacity of 91.78 MW.

The Department of New and Renewable Energy has also floated bids for an 8.4 MW grid-connected rooftop solar project under the CAPEX model.

Solar Villages and Training Initiatives As part of the initiative, Haryana plans to develop model solar villages in each district with assistance from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. These villages will showcase solar technologies like:

Solar home lighting systems Solar water systems for villages Solar pumps for agriculture Solar streetlights To support these efforts, over 2,700 ITI students have been trained in solar equipment installation through an industry-oriented curriculum. Additionally, 100 ITI master trainers will oversee the ground-level implementation.

Scheme Highlights The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to provide free electricity to one crore households nationwide. The scheme combines central financial assistance with state financial aid for Antyodaya families on a first-come, first-served basis, focusing on enhancing green energy access and reducing rural energy costs.
