Haryana buys power from national grid at cheaper prices

In the last week of April, Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC) had bought electricity for Rs 12 a unit through the private and short-term purchase agreements. The rotor spares for the 600 MW second unit of Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant at Khedar in Hisar district have also arrived, and the unit will restart hopefully by June.

The supply to the farm sector has also been slotted in three shifts of 5 hours each to help the distribution companies maintain a balance between supply and demand in paddy sowing days. Haryana needs 9,500-9,700 MW daily in the afternoons and evenings. It has own arrangements for about 2,400 MW and rest comes from purchase agreements and the share in thermal plants. From June 1, state will get 1,000 MW from Khedar and Adani.

The state aims to give uninterrupted and adequate supply to all the consumers. Scheduling the agricultural supply for daytime has improved our situation. And as a result, for the past eight days no power cuts were imposed on the industry or the domestic sector. Since monsoon has hit the south, it has increased chances of getting more power for Haryana.
