Husk Expands Solar Capacity to 20 MW

Husk Power Systems has successfully doubled the size of its community solar minigrid portfolio, now operating across more than 400 rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The company’s solar-powered initiatives currently deliver energy to over 1.5 million individuals and 30,000 small businesses. Husk has added 20 MW of solar generation capacity and a 2,500-km transmission and distribution network, while displacing approximately 3,000 diesel generators and reducing 15,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

Manoj Sinha, CEO and Co-Founder of Husk Power Systems, highlighted, “We are the first and only company to deploy hundreds of new minigrids in a single year. This proves that the industry can scale rapidly when provided with the right policies, long-term capital, and innovative solutions. We are committed to accelerating progress towards eradicating energy poverty in Africa and Asia, working closely with governments and funders.

Husk’s aggressive growth strategy includes a projection to double its revenue and increase its customer base by 2.5 times in 2025. To achieve this, the company has developed a pipeline of 100 MW worth of solar projects across several countries. Additionally, Husk plans to initiate an equity and debt financing round in the second half of 2025 to support its expansion.

The company’s growth trajectory was also marked by the doubling of its workforce to over 1,000 employees in 2023. Husk introduced its PRISM containerised system, enabling a remarkable deployment rate of one minigrid per day. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its interconnected minigrid systems, contributing hundreds of megawatts of capacity across the two continents in the near future.
