HVDC & power quality factory inaugurated by Hitachi Energy in Chennai

A new high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and power quality factory has been opened by Hitachi Energy in Chennai. These innovative approaches are essential for transmission growth, particularly for the integration of renewable energy sources and the stability of the electrical grid. The advanced transmission and power quality solutions' brain, the MACH control and protection system, will be produced at the new plant alongside modern power electronics for HVDC light, HVDC classic, and STATCOM. It will provide cutting-edge technologies to aid in the quickening of the energy transition, allowing Hitachi Energy to boost its output.

This plant will meet the enormous global need for clean energy solutions to integrate renewables at the scale and pace that is required, as well as the rapidly expanding Indian market. It is the newest HVDC plant and the second power quality control solution testing lab built in the entire world. It will support international HVDC installations as well as the growing number of high-voltage transmission projects in India.

India has set a goal to generate 50% of its total electricity from renewable sources by 2030, as electricity will serve as the foundation of the world's energy system in the future. In order to do this, renewable energy must be bulk-transmitted over vast distances and the national grid must be balanced for intermittencies, problems for which HVDC and power quality are the ideal fixes.
