In Karnataka CESC gets 10,000 applications for rooftop solar systems

10,000 applications have been received by Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) from households in five districts who want to use renewable energy to illuminate their houses. The online enrollment received an overwhelmingly positive response from the districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, and Kodagu in response to the CESC's demand for harvesting solar energy by adopting rooftop solar systems.

According to the demands of the homes, the CESC has designated six agencies and consultants who have been given permission to offer technical support and rooftop solar system installation. As required by MNRE, Government of India, interested individuals can get in touch with the agencies for help installing rooftop solar power systems. The response, according to CESC Managing Director Jayavibhvaswamy, is positive. Potential exists for more registrations. The facilities will be examined by the agencies for viability.

According to the CESC MD, a delay in identifying the consultants was caused by a few rules. The companies had been chosen and could be contacted for the installation after some rules had been relaxed. Initial finance is the responsibility of the households, but one month following installation, MNRE will provide a 40% subsidy. After an installation inspection, the CESC will organise the subsidy.
