Kavundampalayam to get solar power plant

Coimbatore鈥檚 city corporation has planned to set up a solar plant with a capacity of 2 MW and an outlay of Rs. 145 million at Kavundampalayam, taking the total solar power production capacity of the city corporation to 7.6 MW from the current 5.6 MW.

The corporation has sent a proposal to the CMA (Commissioner of Municipal Administration) for clearance. Once the proposal gets approval, tenders will be floated for the 7.6-acre plant installation. It has been estimated to take six months to set up the city鈥檚 fourth solar power plant.

Reportedly, 5,334 solar panels would be coming up at the old dump yard at Kavundampalayam with one solar plant with a capacity of 1 MW already functioning there. The civic body will be seeking funds from Asian Development Bank through the Tamil Nadu Flagship Investment Program for the plant which will contribute 10 per cent of the funding from its capital expenditure.
