Mahagenco to install three solar power projects at CSTPS

Mahagenco to build three solar power projects with 300 MW total generation capacity in the Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station (CSTPS) area in the upcoming days.

While Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station (CSTPS) continues to be in the limelight for its pollution, the company initiated solid steps towards solar power generation for mitigation of its overall carbon footprint.

CSTPS has its focus on the mitigation of carbon emissions by utilising measures to track the emissions. The company initiated the process to set up two solar parks in their plant area with a 145 MW and 105 MW total generation capacity.

CSTPS Chief Engineer Pankaj Sapate said that the 145 MW project will be erected at Kachrala and the other one will be set up at a state-of-art floating solar power project of 105 MW capacity in the backwaters of the Irai dam.

Additionally, he said that the solar project of 105 MW will be a first-of-its-kind floating solar project across the state. The project will be established with the help of floating solar panels at an approximate cost of Rs 580 crore in the Irai dam’s backwaters, which was also built by the company.

Irai dam backwater occupies a space of 7150.77 hectare and these solar panels will mostly cover around 427 acre. The floating solar panels are going to be an amazing sight and also help in the reduction of evaporation losses in summer from the reservoir, apart from mitigation of carbon emission.
