Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) is embarking on a groundbreaking project to establish Asia's largest Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Mumbai. Ashu Shinghal, Managing Director of MGL, revealed in an exclusive interview with ET Energyworld that this ambitious initiative will be executed in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and involves a substantial investment of approximately Rs 500 crore. In response to queries regarding MGL's role in the global shift towards sustainable energy, Shinghal emphasized the company's unwavering commitment to green energy solutions. He remarked, The transition towards green energy is something we are taking seriously. A significant milestone in this commitment is the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) inked between MGL and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Under this agreement, the partners will establish a cutting-edge Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant boasting a remarkable processing capacity of 1000 tons daily. The transformative plant will have the capability to convert a staggering 1000 tons of solid municipal waste into approximately 40 tonnes of compressed biogas each day. This ambitious venture aligns with India's broader efforts to promote sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources while addressing critical waste management concerns. As the project takes shape, it is expected to not only contribute to cleaner energy production but also play a pivotal role in mitigating the environmental impact of solid waste disposal. Furthermore, it underscores MGL's commitment to advancing the green energy agenda in India and solidifies its position as a leader in sustainable energy solutions.
