NTPC, SJVN, Hinduja Win RUMSL's Phase II Solar Auction

The winning bidders in Rewa Ultra Mega Solar's (RUMSL) auction for the construction of a 300 MW floating solar park (Phase II) in the Omkareshwar reservoir in Madhya Pradesh are NTPC Renewable Energy, SJVN Green Energy, and Hinduja Renewables Energy.

SJVN Green Energy won 90 MW by bidding $3.79 (about $0.0458 per kWh), NTPC Renewable Energy won 80 MW at $3.80 (about $0.0459 per kWh), and Hinduja Renewables Energy won 80 MW with the price of $3.89 (about $0.0470 per kWh), according to Mercom sources. The project's tender was floated in April of this year by RUMSL, a joint venture between the Solar Energy Corporation of India and the Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam.

After it was first put up for auction in November 2022, where the same firms obtained various capacities at substantially cheaper prices, the capacity under Phase I was retender.

Three units of grid-connected floating solar photovoltaic projects make up the expected 300 MW capacity of the floating solar park under Phase ll.

The projects must be built on a build-own-operate basis by the winners.

TRAI Starts Digital Consent Pilot with RBI and Leading Banks

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has noted that many spam-related complaints from consumers are directed at businesses they have previously engaged with for goods or services. When investigated, these businesses often claim they hold the consumer’s consent for sending commercial messages or making calls.  Under the Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), 2018, commercial communications can be made to consumers, even if they are on the Do Not Disturb (DND) list, as long as the sender has obtained explicit consent. However, in many ..

TRAI Caps PM-WANI Tariffs to Boost Affordable Public Wi-Fi

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has welcomed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) Telecommunication Tariff (71st Amendment) Order, 2025 (PR 46/2025), issued on 16 June 2025. This amendment mandates that all retail FTTH broadband plans up to 200 Mbps must be offered to Public Data Offices (PDOs) at prices not exceeding twice the consumer broadband rate. This ceiling is expected to significantly reduce the backhaul costs for public Wi-Fi hotspots—by as much as tenfold.  Introduced under the Prime Minister’s “Broadband for Allâ€ initiative, the PM-WANI ..
