Odisha Dy CM Says No Announcement on 300 Free Electricity Units

Odisha's Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo clarified that there has been no announcement regarding the provision of free electricity up to 300 units in the state. The clarification came in response to demands for free electricity up to 300 units, which had been an election promise made by the BJP. Singh Deo, who also serves as the power minister, noted that misinformation is being deliberately spread in certain areas of Bargarh district, and there have been instances of electricity consumer meters being removed.

He emphasised that such actions are not only illegal but also pose significant safety risks. Only trained and qualified personnel are authorised to handle the installation or removal of electricity meters. In the event of an incident resulting from unauthorised meter removal, the distribution company would be held responsible.

During a session in the assembly, Singh Deo explained that the correct information is that the availability of up to 300 units of electricity through the installation of a rooftop solar plant under the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijlee Yojna is part of a new Government of India initiative. He mentioned that this scheme provides a subsidy of Rs 78,000 for installing a 3 KW solar plant on rooftops, which can produce more than 300 units per month. This can help electricity consumers significantly reduce their bills through self-generated solar power.

He encouraged electricity consumers to participate in the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijlee Yojna to take advantage of the benefits. Additionally, he requested the assistance of MLAs in helping people access the central scheme.
