Sanchi, in Madhya Pradesh is set to become India's first solar city

In May, Sanchi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district close to Bhopal, will become India's first solar city.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, reviewed the projects being carried out in Sanchi to make it a solar city. He claimed that MP consistently promotes solar energy use and that the state currently has a large number of solar power projects in operation.

The country's first solar city, Sanchi, a global heritage site of Buddhist stupas, will be recognized as such by next month, according to information provided to the chief minister at a review meeting yesterday in Bhopal.
