Sembcorp, a Singapore-based provider of energy and urban solutions, announced that it had signed two non-binding Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Odisha to explore the development of a 720,000 metric tonne per annum green hydrogen production facility and an industrial park in the state.

The MoUs were signed by the company with the Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha and the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation through its wholly-owned subsidiaries, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India (SGHI) and Sembcorp Development.

As per the MoU with the Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha, SGHI will explore the development of the green hydrogen production facility. Meanwhile, Sembcorp Development, which signed a separate non-binding MoU with the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation, will assess the potential for developing an industrial park in Odisha, India.

The official press release indicated that the facility is expected to create over 2,000 employment opportunities during its operational phase.

The MoUs were signed by representatives from the Government of Odisha and Sembcorp, in the presence of Singapore’s Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, Chee Hong Tat, and Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with other dignitaries. The MoUs were exchanged on the sidelines of the Presidential State Visit of Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, to India.

These MoUs are part of the broader framework established by the Governments of Singapore and India to strengthen bilateral collaboration, with an emphasis on six key pillars, including sustainability.

The signing of these MoUs is not expected to have a material impact on Sembcorp's earnings per share or net tangible assets per share for the financial year ending December 31, 2025.
