Sileru draws water from Balimela to produce power

4,000 cusecs of water are being withdrawn from Balimela Reservoir for hydropower generation in Sileru, according to KKV Prashanth Kumar, AP Genco Sileru Complex Superintendent Engineer.

Recent damage to the Donkarayi Power Canal has caused the complex's Donkarayi and Polluru hydropower units to stop producing electricity. But according to Kumar, they are collecting 4,000 cusecs from Balimela and generating power because grid officials have given the go-ahead for complete power generation from the Sileru hydropower facility.

Sileru has been producing up to 1.7 million units of electricity every day for the past three days. Authorisation was still pending in order to begin the Donkarayi Power Canal's repairs. They are currently working to build a road because there is no way for automobiles to access the canal. To dispose of the materials needed to build Kachcha Road, the authorities are making preparations.
