SJVN secures a 200 MW solar power project in Bihar

Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN), a state-owned hydroelectric power generation company, announced that it received a letter of intent (LoI) to supply 200 MW solar power to Bihar.
Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) issued LoI at a tariff of Rs 3.11 per kWh from the grid-connected solar power project of SJVN in the state.
After the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) approved the tariff, LoI was issued. SJVN will sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) soon.
Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN, revealed that the construction and development cost of the project would be around Rs 1,000 crore.
According to the estimates, it's expected that the project would generate 420.48 MU (million units), and its cumulative energy production over 25 years would be nearly 10,512 MU.
Sharma told the media that in August 2021, during an e-reverse auction, the firm secured a grid connected solar power project in Bihar via an open competitive tariff bidding procedure for 200 MW capacity.
SJVN has a total working hydropower capacity of 1,912 MW through its two hydropower plants in Rampur and Nathpa Jhakri. It also has an installed capacity of 97.6 MW of wind and 6.9 MW of solar power. Currently, it has 2,550 MW of solar projects under implementation in different locations.
