Sunova Solar to build 9 GW TOPCon cell plant in China

Sunova Solar, a manufacturer of solar cells and modules, has declared its investment in a 9 GW TOPCon cell production facility in Yibin City, China. The facility will concentrate on producing 182mm, 199mm, and 210 mm TopCon solar cells.

It was revealed that this marks the company's inaugural cell manufacturing facility, which will be expanded to achieve an annual production capacity of 9 GW upon completion.

At present, Sunova Solar manages factories in China and Vietnam, boasting an integrated 4.2 GW capacity for solar modules. The company has successfully shipped over 4 GW of modules globally.

Mike Song, the Chairman of Sunova Solar, stated, Investing in our cell manufacturing line is a crucial milestone in our long-term strategy and will reduce our reliance on other suppliers, ensuring a consistent quality cell input for our high-efficiency modules. Moreover, it grants us increased control over our supply chain to guarantee the production of our modules with materials free from forced labour.

The company, offering a diverse range of solar products and components such as photovoltaic modules, inverters, and solar battery storage, plans to implement an automated guided vehicle to streamline material transportation within the new factory.

The cell production area occupies 67,000 square meters within the 107,000 square meters of the factory. With a workforce comprising 560 personnel in the factory and 420 front-line workers, the company emphasised its commitment to ethical production practices, excluding forced labour materials.

Additionally, Sunova Solar revealed that the facility will be powered by a rooftop solar system.
