Ten steps by NITI Aayog to make India a green hydrogen hub

The government think tank NITI Aayog, in collaboration with Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), has proposed ten strategies for India to become the global hub for green hydrogen. If the necessary steps are taken, India is expected to have the world's largest green hydrogen generation capacity of more than 60 GW by 2030. According to reports, NITI Aayog has proposed that 1,000 trucks, 50 boats, and ten aircraft be converted to hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2030. The production of electrolysers in India should aim for a minimum of 25 GW by 2030. Many industries, including iron ore and steel, fertilisers, refineries, methanol, heavy-duty trucking, aviation, and maritime shipping, emit significant amounts of CO2. Providing carbon-free hydrogen (green hydrogen) to these sectors will be critical in enabling deep decarbonisation. Making India a global hub for green hydrogen will aid the country's transition to clean energy and the achievement of net-zero targets by 2070.
