Terex launches its all-electric bucket trucks for customers

Terex bucket truck will start shipping to customers in June. The Terex EV Aerial, an electric bucket truck on Class 6-7 medium-duty chassis, will make its formal debut at the Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The Terex Optima 55 ft electric aerial device for the all-electric International eMV Series battery-electric chassis.

Director of Marketing at Terex, Joe Caywood, said that by combining SmartPTO technology with the International electric chassis, Terex Utilities could bring its bucket truck solution to the electric utilities two years ahead of industry projections.

The Terex Optima is powered by the HyPower SmartPTO by Viatec, providing hydraulic functions of the utility truck from the outriggers to the boom of the aerial with the flip of a switch.

Caywood said that the company is giving electric utilities a solution to help meet the electrification and sustainability goals. Many utilities have sustainability goals with 50% electric transition by 2025 and 100% electric by 2030. This solution can catalyse the plans for electrification of the fleets.

The Terex Optima is a 60 ft aerial device used for electric distribution line work. The truck has a 135-mile driving range and can operate the bucket for the whole day on a single charge. Its maximum power is around 335 hp or 250 KW.

For utilities that intend to replace their medium fleets with zero emissions equipment, some availability remains for orders in 2022.
