According to a release, TheGreenBillions Limited (TGBL), a company that specialises in consulting, managing, and implementing sustainable initiatives, has announced its partnership with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to establish a plant in India that will produce green hydrogen from biomass and municipal solid waste. Variate Pune Trash to Energy Pvt. Ltd. (VPWTEPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of TGBL, would be in charge of handling and using Pune's 350 TPD of municipal waste for the purpose of producing hydrogen for 30 years. From municipal solid trash, clean hydrogen is to be extracted as part of the project. In order to develop and establish comparable plants in the future, the business is also in contact with state municipalities around India. The project to turn municipal non-recyclable waste in Pune into hydrogen will be carried out by VPWTEPL with project management consultancy provided by Broadcast Engineering Consultants India (BECIL), a central public sector business of the government of India. According to a BECIL release, the project will allow Pune to directly serve up to 1,80,000 families while also diverting more than 3.8 million MT of waste from the landfill and reducing CO 2 emissions by up to 2.5 million MT. By diverting the municipal solid waste (MSW) that would otherwise be dumped in low-lying urban areas, up to 689.5 cubic metres of space per day and 25.16 hectares of priceless land per year will be preserved. Later, plasma gasification technology would be used to produce hydrogen utilising the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) from the garbage. The technology was created in close collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru and the Bhabha Atomic Research Institute (BARC).
