Trina Solar Sets Record for Solar Module Efficiency

China’s Trina Solar has achieved a new world record for solar module conversion efficiency, the company announced. Its large surface area n-type fully passivated heterojunction (HJT) modules reached an efficiency of 25.44% in laboratory tests, as verified by Germany's Fraunhofer CalLab, a leading solar research organization.

Passivation technology, which minimizes surface defects in solar cells, enhances energy conversion. Improved efficiency allows for smaller installations and reduced costs, making solar energy more accessible.

Professor Martin Green from the University of New South Wales lauded the milestone, highlighting HJT's potential as a leading next-generation solar technology. “Efficiency drives the industry forward. While some methods are initially costly, advancements typically reduce expenses over time, he explained.

Trina Solar’s Chairman and CEO, Gao Jifan, emphasized the company's commitment to advancing passivated solar technologies to maintain its leadership in the renewable energy sector.

Although HJT currently accounts for only 7% of high-efficiency solar cell capacity, consultancy InfoLink predicts its market share will grow to 9% by 2026. However, TopCON technology is expected to dominate the market in the near term.

Trina’s achievement not only advances HJT technology but also sets a new benchmark for single-crystalline silicon solar module efficiency, reaffirming its role in shaping the future of solar innovation.
