Union Minister for Electronics & IT Lays Foundation for Manufacturing in Mahbubnagar

Union Minister for Railways, Electronics & IT, and Information & Broadcasting, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, laid the foundation stone for four major manufacturing units at the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Divitipally, Mahbubnagar District, Telangana. This landmark initiative aligns with the government’s vision to bolster electronics manufacturing and accelerate India’s transition towards electric mobility.
The foundation stone was laid for Amara Raja’s Giga Factory-1, while the ground-breaking ceremonies were conducted for Lohum’s critical minerals refining and battery recycling unit, Scell Energy’s cell casing manufacturing plant, and Altmin’s first LFP-CAM Giga Factory. These investments mark a significant milestone in advancing the country’s EV infrastructure and supply chain.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw reiterated the government's commitment to electric mobility, stating, "Electric mobility remains a focus area for the government, and we are dedicated to fostering the right infrastructure and ecosystem for the widespread adoption of EVs. We welcome Indian innovation and manufacturing initiatives and look forward to their success."
The establishment of these manufacturing units is being facilitated under the Ministry of Electronics & IT’s (MeitY) Modified Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) Scheme. Last year, MeitY approved the EMC project, spanning 377.65 acres in Divitipally, as part of its efforts to fortify India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT) is leading the charge as the anchor unit, setting up its Giga Factory over 262 acres. The facility will house a 16 GW cell manufacturing unit and a 5 GW battery pack plant, with an anticipated investment of Rs 95 billion over the next five years. Once fully operational, the Amara Raja Giga Corridor is expected to generate direct employment for 4,500 individuals and create a comparable number of indirect jobs, significantly contributing to the region’s economic growth.
The Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Divitipally is now fully allotted, with 307.47 acres designated for the four key companies—Amara Raja, Altmin, Lohum, and Scell Energy. Collectively, these firms have pledged an investment of Rs 105 billionand are expected to create 19,164 jobs, comprising 5,864 direct and 13,300 indirect employment opportunities.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Mr. Jayadev Galla, Chairman & Managing Director of Amara Raja Energy and Mobility Ltd., remarked, "The foundation stone laying ceremony marks a significant step forward for our company and group. We sincerely appreciate the proactive and pro-industry approach of the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Hon’ble Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw."
The event was attended by Telangana’s Minister for IT, Electronics, Industries, and Commerce, Shri D. Sridhar Babu, along with Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Mahbubnagar, Smt. Aruna D K, and MLA Shri Y. Srinivas Reddy. Senior government officials and industry leaders were also present, underlining the importance of this initiative in shaping India’s manufacturing and EV landscape.
