The Union Power Ministry has signed memorandums of understanding with three state-run power utilities, SJVN, NTPC, and Power Grid Corporation of India, to increase power generation and transmission capacity. Under the agreement, SJVN would generate 9,680 mn units of electricity in a year. The MoU gives SJVN a capital expenditure target of Rs.28.8 bn and a turnover target of Rs.28 bn, along with other targets related to operational efficiency and project monitoring. Similar targets have been set for the other utilities. For NTPC, the agreement targets 340 bn units of power. NTPC would also focus on producing 15 mn mt of coal. The PGCIL agreement relates to various parameters such as financial, physical, and project execution.
