Blackstone Acquires Kolkata’s South City Mall for Rs.3,250 Crore - Blackstone has acquired South City Mall in Kolkata for Rs.3,250 crore, marking one of the largest real estate deals in eastern India. The transaction includes the iconic mall, which spans over one million sq ft and houses more than 150 retail outlets, a six-screen INOX multiplex, and eastern India’s largest food court. The mall generates an annual turnover of around Rs.1,800 crore. The acquisition also covers unsold inventory from the Altair Colombo residential project. This move strengthens Blackstone’s presence in India’s high-end retail sector and signals growing investor confidence in Kolkata’s retail real estate market. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Invites DPR Consultancy Bids for 215 km 6-Lane Barbil–Chandikhole Highway in Odisha - The NHAI has floated a tender for consultancy services to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed 6-lane national highway spanning 215 km from Barbil to Chandikhole in Odisha. The tender, published on June 17, 2025, seeks expert input for alignment planning, design, and project feasibility. With a document fee of Rs.5,000 and no EMD required, the submission deadline is July 17, 2025. The project aims to improve regional connectivity and support economic growth in mineral-rich and industrial zones of Odisha. Malta to Establish Cultural and Trade Centre in Nagpur - The Republic of Malta has announced plans to set up a Cultural and Trade Centre in Nagpur as part of its strategic vision to strengthen ties with India. New Railway Line Proposal Between Perecherla and Mangalagiri Gains Traction - A new railway line proposal between Perecherla and Mangalagiri near Guntur is gaining momentum, with the South Central Railway moving forward with the project. The line, estimated to cost `200 crore, aims to provide an alternative route to reduce congestion on the existing Guntur–Krishna Canal stretch. The 18-km line will enhance connectivity and reduce the distance between Perecherla and Mangalagiri by around 10 km. Andhra Pradesh Approves 15 MW Waste-to-Energy Plant in Vijayawada Cluster - The Government of Andhra Pradesh has approved a proposal from Swachha Andhra Corporation to establish a 15 MW waste-to-energy plant in the Vijayawada cluster. NTR and Krishna district collectors have been directed to identify 35 acres of suitable land for the facility. The project aims to boost sustainable waste management and clean energy generation in the region, reinforcing the state’s commitment to environmental infrastructure. Chandigarh Mandates Environmental Clearance for Large-Scale Construction Projects - Chandigarh’s UT Environment Department has mandated environmental clearance for large construction and township projects—specifically those exceeding 50 ha or 150,000 m² of built-up area, and buildings over 20,000 m². The move follows a National Green Tribunal directive requiring stricter enforcement of the 2006 EIA Notification and compliance with Supreme Court orders. Vedanta Invites States to Host Rs.15,000 crore World-Class University in Waterfront Education City - Vedanta has announced plans to establish a not-for-profit, world-class university in India, backed by a Rs.15,000 crore investment under the Vedanta Foundation.
