Bentley Systems, the global leader in infrastructure engineering software, successfully concluded Illuminate 2024. This conference sought to explore how digital transformation and next-generation technologies like open AI-powered digital twins can accelerate India’s ambitious Vision 2047—the mission to become a fully developed and sustainable nation by 2047. The event opened with a welcome address from Kamalakannan Thiruvadi, regional executive, South Asia, Bentley Systems, who framed the discussions around India's journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047. He said India needed an estimated USD4.5 trillion in infrastructure investment by 2040 which would lead to opportunities in transportation, energy and water management. India lags behind G-20 nations in terms of employment generation and the country needs to create an additional 148 million jobs by 2030 given the population growth, Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director, International Monetary Fund [IMF] said. To generate more jobs, she said, there is a need to increase private investment as it is not commensurate with 7 per cent growth in GDP. She said public investment is going well but private investment has to improve. She said India should revamp its education system so that it can improve the skill set of its workforce. India is one of the most water-stressed countries in the world - it has 18 percent of the global population but only four percent of its water resources. According to a UN report, 'Ageing Dams of India', the country's 1,115 large dams will be 50 years old by 2025, some reaching 150 years of service by 2050. So it's crucial to stop taking monsoon rains for granted and invest time, effort and money in maintaining dams.
